Saturday Morning Blackberry Scones.

Two weeks ago I skipped the farmer's market because it was rainy and windy and I was dead in the middle of a two day, total house cleaning project. (It's due for another little cleaning project about now too) 

I also made these scones. Not too sweet, a little bit tart. Perfect with coffee on an August Saturday morning. 


  • cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 3/4 cup butter

  • pinch cinnamon, nutmeg

  • cup buttermilk

  • cup fresh blackberries



  • **I didn't have buttermilk so I mixed 1 Cup milk with 1 Tbsp lemon juice and let sit for 5-10 minutes


    • Preheat oven to 400*
    • Sift dry ingredients in a large bowl



    • Cut in butter
    • Mix in buttermilk
    • Add berries



    • Knead to form dough. Form dough into 3-4 inch balls
    • Place on lightly greased cookie sheet and flatten slightly


    • Bake 15-20 minutes
    • Cool on wire rack

    *Best served warm
